I am the Local Education Appointed Governor and also the County Councillor for the division called Sacriston which includes Nettlesworth, Kimblesworth and Plawsworth as well as some other villages nearby.
I am very proud to be a Governor at Nettlesworth Primary and it is one of the best schools in the area that I am a councillor of. I always enjoy my visits to the school, the staff and pupils are really friendly and look after me when I visit. It is a very happy school.
As well as being a Governor and a County Councillor, my work background is business strategy and development. I have worked for some fantastic charities who provide services for vulnerable adults across the UK, this could be someone who is homeless, has a learning disability or some other difficulty that they need help with. It is my role to make sure the charities operate legally, do what they say they are going to do and it is also my job to help them improve and grow bigger so that they can help more people in more towns and villages.
As part of my role as Governor I serve on the following committees:
Finance and Premises Committee which is responsible for overseeing the spending of the school budget and financing for the upkeep of the school building and grounds.
Curriculum and Standards Committee which has responsibility for the oversight of the curriculum delivery in school and standards of attainment in school
Headteacher Performance Management Committee which has responsibility for overseeing the performance of the head teacher on an annual basis. This includes working with a local authority representative to set annual targets and review progress towards these targets.
First/Pay Review Committee which has responsibility for personnel issues and to work closely with the Finance and Premises committee on pay related reviews and guidance.
