The Rights Respecting School have written to our local MP Kevan Jones, expressing our concern about the road safety around our school. We have had a lovely reply from Mr Jones, who is going to write to Durham County Council about our ideas of making it safer.

Emma Morag – The Amazing Storyteller
Today we had a storyteller work with each class telling different stories that captivated our imaginations and developed our speaking and listening skills!
Class 1 worked with Emma first where she told a wonderful story all about a young warrior preparing for celebrations in Autumn many many years ago.
Class 2 worked to retell the story of Jane and the Ghost and even learned an rhyme of their own at the end.
Throughout the afternoon, Emma worked with the children across Key Stage Two, with a Historical twist added to her wonderful stories!
The children were engaged from start to finish and even our youngest of children in EYFS had the most engaged of faces when listening to the talented tales of Emma Morag! Thank you for such a wonderful day of stories! 🙂
Fire Safety Assembly
Today, we had an assembly delivered by our local PCSO, James Robson and some of the firefighters from Durham Fire Station educating us all about how to stay safe at this time of year – especially with Bonfire Night being just around the corner.
As a treat for listening and engaging so well throughout the assembly we were able to see a firefighter in full kit, including his oxygen mask – it was funny because when it was on he sounded like Darth Vader! As well as this some children had the opportunity to go and try on mini police uniforms and mini firefighter uniforms!
Thank you very much for a wonderful assembly! 🙂
Road Safety
Dear Parents/Carers,
RE: Parking Outside School
Car parking at the beginning and end of the school day is a problem at most primary schools. Children and parents arrive and depart in a relatively short period of time and this causes congestion.
School has contacted our local PSCO to make them aware of the issues regarding parking outside school.
If you witness any actions outside school that concern you please can I ask that you report it to the police using the 101 number.
What can you do to help keep everyone safe around the school ?
Please don’t:
Block the road, emergency vehicles and other traffic may need access
Park on yellow lines, zig-zags or block the school entrance
Park on the pavement, across dropped kerbs or residents’ driveways
Park opposite or within 10 metres of a junction
Expect drivers to reverse on to the main road
Park where you will cause inconvenience to other road users
Leave your vehicle with the engine still running
Stop in the middle of the road to drop your child off, even for a few seconds
Please walk to school if you can. If you have to come by car, try to share trips with friends or we can use the car park next to the community centre. Parking on restricted areas or mounting the pavement is a traffic offence.
Thank you for your support and co-operation.
Yours sincerely
Donna Lee Headteacher
Our Harvest Festival
Today we had our Harvest Festival down at Church. Rev. Caroline led the service and it was great to see so many parents and carers turn up for the wonderful readings, singing, blessings and stories all linking to the theme of Harvest. Special thanks to all of you who donated food for our Harvest collection, this will be donated to The Durham Foodbank and help many people who are not as fortunate as ourselves.
Article 24: Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must work to provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and clean water so that children can stay healthy.
Open the Book Assembly
‘The Lord Calls to Samuel’
Today we had our first ‘Open the Book’ assembly of the year. The children were excited to join in with this half term’s Bible story learning all about when God spoke to Samuel whilst he was asleep during the night. Big thank you to Cranley who took on the role of Eli and Jenson who played the part of Samuel.
