For the past seven years Durham County Council have been working closely with key partners from the Royal Lifesaving Society and emergency services to promote drowning prevention and raise the importance of water safety
Drowning Prevention Week, this year is running from 12-19th June 2020. The national aim of this campaign is to prevent the number of drowning and non-fatal drowning incidents which occur in the UK each year.
Throughout County Durham we are supporting the campaign and the delivery of National Curriculum for School Swimming and Water Safety, encouraging County Durham Schools, clubs, leisure centres, parents, families and communities to promote water safety education through the range of activities, aiming to raise an awareness of the potential dangers of water.
Drowning Prevention Week is a vitally important part of County Durham’s National Curriculum and Water Safety education calendar and I hope you, your school and local community will support this campaign by sharing the links below and signing up as an individual parent school or school and use the material available to raise an important awareness of water safety.
