29th June 2020
It is now the third week, we have been able to welcome our Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children back into school, as well as our keyworker children. It has been lovely to see more children and have our classrooms with children in again. It has been so difficult in that we are not allowed to welcome any of our Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 children back. If your child in these year groups would like to speak to a member of staff or even see a member of staff socially distanced outside the school building, please don’t hesitate to call the school office and we will do our best to arrange this.
I would again like to thank everyone in our school community for their kindness and encouragement during these difficult times. We have received many telephone calls, emails and messages from you all, which is overwhelmingly supportive and all staff appreciate your kind words and actions. I would also like to thank everyone for adhering to our strict protocols that we must follow for allowing more children to return back to school from June 15th. Please continue to look on our new section of the website, where risk assessments, advice, protocols and videos are posted for your information.
Staff have been busy in school and at home to continue to support our children and families and have been doing work behind the scenes to further improve our amazing school. The numbers of pupils who want to attend our school continue to increase and we are now at almost maximum capacity. We have just had a project plan approved to turn a storage room into another classroom. Work for this will begin during the summer holidays and hopefully completed by the end of October.
We have also had an area in our playground surfaced with wet pour and plans to turn it into a sensory area as an ongoing plan for continually developing our outdoor area for the children.
New Reception Transition
This is the time that we would usually be preparing for children’s transition visits, but because of this unusual situation that we find ourselves in due to the coronavirus, we cannot organise things in our normal way. However, we do understand that starting a new school is a very exciting but nervous time for everyone, so have decided to put some things in place to make this a little less worrying for our new receptions
Weather permitting, we are holding 2 events outdoors on our school field to provide parents/carers with more information about their child starting school, as well as the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and support staff, as well as the head teacher, before September. We have also created a new page on our website for Reception 2020 children.
Year 6 Leavers
On Thursday 16th July, we would have normally had our school leaver’s special assembly with all of our children, staff and Year 6 parents/carers. Again we are unable to do this but we still want to give them and us an opportunity to say goodbye and wish them all lots of luck for their next stage in their education as they move to secondary school. Again, weather permitting we would like to arrange this still as an outdoor event but will have to adhere to social distance guidelines. We will send out further details to Year 6 parents/carers about this event.
End of Year Reports
End of Year Reports will still be written to report your child’s end of year progress for all national curriculum subjects. These will be posted or delivered week commencing Monday 6th July.
To give staff time to plan, government guidance currently states that schools are able to close to all pupils, including key workers, during the summer holidays. It is our current intention to close to all pupils for the six-week break. We will break up on Friday 17th July 2020 and reopen on Wednesday 2nd September 2020. We look forward to welcoming more pupils back in September and we are sure you will join us in celebrating their return as soon as government guidance makes this possible. As with everything surrounding COVID-19, there is a lot of uncertainty so please bear with us as we work through things. Remember, we are here to support you in any way we can during this pandemic. If you ring or email school, we will do our best to help you or point you in the right direction of someone who can.
