The
World Wide Web
What
is the Web ?
Search
Engines
There
are millions of web-sites out there to be used and it can take a long time
to find what you are looking for. That is why you need to have a definite
idea of the information you require before you start.
You could follow some of
the links from our Cool
Links page to get started or you could use a special site called a
Search Engine.
Search engines are essential
tools to be used when surfing the web. They are special programs which
work like librarians sifting through the vast range of information and
finding relevant sites for you. All you have to do is type in a word or
subject and a search engine will find you loads of sites on this topic.
Using
a search engine is quite simple but there are some things you need to know
before you start. . .
I have already said that
there are loads of information and ideas on the web and this means that
a search engine could suggest thousands of sites to view if you are not
careful.
Try doing a search on “education”
and you will see what I mean. The search engine will suggest many thousands
of sites that would take you hours to read through to find the information
you need.
Next try refining your search
to “English Primary Schools” this narrows your options.
Finally try Nettlesworth
Primary School and you should be able to find our site quite easily.
If you are not clear exactly
what you are looking for then you can waste a lot of time sifting through
the World Wide Web. There is a wealth of information available but it will
not all be useful to you.
