View our activities from Autumn Term
Today as a Christmas treat we had a Pantomime in the comfort of our own school! It was absolutely fantastic – thank you to the actors at Big Foot Entertainment who provided us with an afternoon of cheer, as well as the Nettlesworth School Community Group (NSCG) for organising it! 🙂
Christmas is coming!
Today we decorated our whole school tree and every child and adult had the chance to put a decoration on of their own! Then we went back to our classes and saw the wonderful Christmas decorations all around our learning environment! We can’t wait to act our the nativity in our very own ‘Bethlehem’!
Green Tree Gold Award
We are thrilled to accept the award from Green Tree Schools as we have been marked a Gold School for all our Forest Schools activities taking place across the entire school; planting trees, growing pumpkins, weekly forest schools sessions as well as providing children with outdoor learning opportunities across all of the seasons!
Well done to last year’s reception and year 1 for being our first official cohort of “forest schooler’s” as well as the current children taking part in our fantastic weekly sessions! 🙂
Over the past couple of weeks, Papi & Claire (our governors and members of the parent group) has been working with the children in classes to make Christmas wreaths that they have chosen to order. They are absolutely fantastic and will hang beautiful on the doors of Nettlesworth and the wider community!
Thank you!!!! 🙂
SPLAT’s Circus & SPAG day’s
Huge thank you to Paul from SPLAT who has worked with us over the past couple of days providing us with a wonderful day full of circus skills on Monday and then a SPAG day on Tuesday.
These opportunities have not only increased our sporting/movement skills, especially balancing, throwing and catching but they have also provided us with a lot of important speaking and listening skills through performing in front of an audience short acts all about the things we have been learning about SPAG (Spelling, punctuation & Grammar).
Each class had differentiated activities to take part in and then at the end we put all of our SPAGTASTIC work together and performed in front of the whole school! We also had bundles of fun along the way! 🙂
UK Parliamentary week Coffee Morning
Class1 enjoyed having so many of their parents and carers in school this morning to show them the wonderful work we have been doing as part of our current ’20’s Plenty’ campaign to make our community and journey to school a safer place! Thank you for coming and joining us! 🙂
Level 1 Swimmer
We are super proud of Farren, who has recently achieved his Level 1 swimming badge! Keep up this wonderful hobby Farren! 🙂
Children in Need 2018
We have had sooo much fun taking part in the whole school dodgeball tournaments planned by our sports leaders throughout the day today. It was great to see so many of our friends wearing spots to support such a great cause – we love the thought that we could make a difference to another child’s life! 🙂
Our 1st Forest Schools 2018
Today we headed up to our new forest schools site for the first time as a class and we had so much fun! Although there is a lot of work to be done to make it perfect we had lots of fun working as a team and enhancing our speaking and listening skills! We just can’t wait for next week! 🙂
UK Parliamentary Week 2018
Class 1 have really enjoyed taking part in UK parliamentary week, where we have been campaigning for ‘20’s Plenty’ on the roads nearby our school. We have made some brilliant posters to raise awareness of our campaign and been busy doing a road traffic survey at different times of the day to measure the volume of traffic going past our school on a daily basis! Hopefully we can make our community safer for everyone!
Remembrance Day 2018
Throughout the week class 1 have been learning all about the meaning of ‘Remembrance Day’ and what the poppy means at this important time of year. The children have loved making Poppy’s from different materials to go on the whole school display and to take home to show their parents. It was exciting to see a soldier and an army cadet pay their respects during 2 minutes silence in our whole school assembly too!
To end our wonderful work in literacy on recipes and instructions – linking to the traditional tale ‘The Enormous Turnip’, we made some delicious Turnip Soup following a simple but delicious recipe! I hope all of the parents enjoyed their taster as much as we did! 🙂
A ‘Haunting’ Halloween
What a fantastic day we have had creating Halloween crafts, carving pumpkins and decorating the hall to celebrate Halloween and prepare for the disco! We had soooo much fun! 🙂
Down at the Farm
Today we visited Fyndoune Farm to see the animals and learn about how to look after the properly. It was fantastic to see and hold so many different types of animals; from snakes to rabbits. We all fell in love with the Farm dog Charlie too!
This week our mini farmers in Class 1 have been working hard to Harvest our home-grown pumpkins before the Winter Season sets in. We were shocked to discover that pumpkins are green before turning orange! 🙂
Travelling Book Fair
This week we have had the travelling Book Fair at our school. It has been great having the opportunity to go and look at the different books and make note of the ones that we would like to buy. Each class has also had the opportunity to go up to the book fair and read a story of their choice! What a lovely week shared with our friends and parents who could make it. 🙂
One of our youngest members of the school brought in their amazing Judo trophy after being awarded ‘
The Young Samuri Black belt of the month!’
This was awarded due to Jacob always trying his best and for being brave when injuring himself in class, his resilient attitude helped him power through and he never gave up practising his Judo skills! Well done Jacob we are so Proud 🙂
Seasonal Change Detectives
As part of our Science work on Seasonal Change, Class 1 went on a hunt to decide what season it was! We found lots of clues; red leaves, orange leaves, acorns, conkers and even blackberries. This told us that it was defiantly Autumn! Well done detectives! 🙂
George has recently achieved Level 1 in his after school swimming lessons and was so proud to show everyone at school his fantastic certificate and badge! Well done George, keep up the good work 🙂
Our first day in Class 1
Our first day in Class 1 was so exciting! We had a very busy but fun first day getting to know our new friends and had lots of fun. We spent our day painting, playing in our hospital, exploring outside and building with the big blocks. We enjoyed lunch in the big hall and met boys and girls from the other classes on the big yard. Before we knew it our parents were here to pick us up! 🙂
