County Durham Games

Durham University came to work with us about World War 2 and how to investigate artefacts.
Year 6 Prom
Good luck to all our year 6- You are all truly talented and have been amazing- you will be a big miss!
Well done to Ben, Kelsey, Caitlin, Dayna and Courtney who won a competition to represent Durham and Chester-Le-Street Sport Partnership in the County Games. They won, writing a poem about Rapper Dance.
Well done to our fabulous Sports Leaders and Sports Crew for organising event, which had to be held indoors due to the rain.
We have been making money containers- we have been learning about fabrics, stitching, seams and joins.
Well done to our class for their wonderful performance for the school and their families.
Mr Beveridge has been teaching us tennis in PE. Today we played lawn tennis.
In Science, Class 4 have been working with circuits.
We had great fun working with Destination Judo on the last day of term.
Well done to Ben, Bailey, Liam and Ruby, who performed a Beatles track with Mrs Hill to our class 4.
We have used water colour paint and pastels to create desert perspectives.
We have used textiles to portray our school outdoor area over time and how it has developed. We have also produced artwork to show how we would like our outdoor area to improve further.
UNCRC Article 12
Sports Leaders, Sports Buddies and Sports Crew worked with the Sports Partnership on their leadership skills. They then ran a multi-skills festival for Reception and Year 1.
Well done to Kyle and Alex, who have just passed their Sports Leaders Award.
Gifted and Talented Science Workshop
Ben, Alexander, Ruby and Dayna attended a science workshop at Fyndoune Community College. They conducted physics experiments and took part in seminars.
Fair trade Fortnight
We have been learning how Kenco coffee supports Fair trade and fair wages for local farmers. We also found out that Kenco are running a project called coffee v gangs. They are training young people in a city in Mexico to become coffee farmers rather than being part of gangs.
Dance in PE
Gemma for the Durham and Chester-Le-Street Sports Partnership is doing dance in PE with us. We are learning a Masquerade Ball dance.
Christening at Church
When we went to church, to see the baptism of four babies, we received certificates and candles to congratulate the babies’ christening. Each class allocated Godparents and parents to each baby so we could see what was involved in this service as we have been learning about Christianity.

Ruby has won a competition with NUFC and is going to a signing day so she can get all of the autographs from her favourite players. Well done Ruby!
More Able , Gifted and Talented PE camp
Kyle, Kelsey and Joshua went to Durham University and studied Sport Science for the day. They also took part in Athletics and received certificates for their performance.

Christmas Party 2016
We had a great time at the Christmas Party. We all had a special visit from Santa Claus and Rudolph too.
Team Building Skills in PE with Mr Beveridge
Class 4 all ready for the Christmas Production. They were all amazing!
Ben builds Apollo 13
In literacy, we have been learning and reading about journeys- fictional and non-fictional. We were taught about Apollo 13 so I built the structure using lego and added the capsule in which the three astronauts had to survive in.
We developed our throwing and catching skills in basketball with a coach fro Durham University. We were taught how to dribble and travel with the ball too.
Balfour Beatty Science/Engineering Day
Year 5/6 had a budget of £50 to buy materials for a successful egg drop at 2m. Only half of the eggs cracked due to successful engineering of parachutes and cushioning. One group only spent £13 and had a massive profit of £37.
Year 5/6 Cross Country Team
Year 5/6 had to run 1000m in a cross country event at Meadowfield with other schools in Chester-Le-Street/Durham. They all did very well. Kelsey was 6th place until 200m before the end.
Year 5/6 hockey tournament at Maiden Castle
Well done to our hockey team who won 2 games, drew one and lost one. They had great fun!
Rugby with Mr Beveridge
Mr Beveridge has been working with year 5/6 in PE- developing rugby skills.
Fyndoune Community College
The year 6 had great fun making bread in Design Technology and learning about the hear and circulatory system in Science. Our old year 6 were working with us too!
A coach came to school and taught us football skills in PE. We had great fun learning different movements.
Thai visited Aqua World
Thai had an amazing time at Aqua world when he was on holiday at the Dominican Republic

Year 6 Prom 2016
Year 6 had a fantastic time at their leavers prom. The buffet was tasty (thank you Debbie) and the sweet cart was yummy! We loved the music and our dance moves were great. Especially the teachers!

Business Enterprise Week
Class 4 won Business Enterprise Week by making a massive profit of £60 on our Rocking Writers!
Ana is awarded with star dance awards
Ana has found out she has passed her star dance awards in her ballet and stage exams. Well done Ana!
Framwellgate Moor French Transition
Mrs Southern came to our school from Framwellgate Moor Comprehensive to do some year 7 French work with us. We did some role-play and ordered food in a virtual French café.
Business Enterprise week
You can buy decorated stylus pencils, biros or sharpie markers at the amazing price of only 50p each. They come in all different colours and patterns. SUPER COOL!

As part of the Mini Police we monitored 126 cars and their speeds past our school. Some of the cars were exceeding the speed limit and will be receiving warning letters from the police. Drivers must remember that near schools and parks, there are lots of children about!
Year 5/6 Athletics Team

Year5/6 have had an amazing time at Robinwood-very tired! They have climbed, zip-wired, canoed and much more. Here is some pictures of what we have been doing.

Well done Ford for achieving Green Stripe Belt
Year 5/6 are part of the Mini Police working with Durham Police and Councillor Heather Liddle. We went to Edmonsley Primary School to see the police helicopter, police cars and the police dogs. We had a great time.

We have been learning how vehicles can be driven by electricity. We have learnt how to use motors within our models and how to control the speed and direction of movement.
Kieran gains his blue belt
Well done to Kieran who took part in his grading for blue belt in judo at the weekend.
Class 4 Gymnastics
We have worked hard in pairs to produce unusual balances with Mr Bevridge. We have them added them to our gymnastic sequences. We had to include 8-10 different parts- balances, rolls etc.
Trip to Beamish
We learnt lots about medicines and how they have changed over time. The Georgian workshop was very interesting and we learnt lots of new things. I would love to have another trip to Beamish; all of the students worked well.
