Class 4 – Visit to see Sarah Lynn Mark from NASA
Dr Mark is the Senior Medical Advisor at NASA in Washington D.C. Dr Mark was born in Colorado and has worked all over the world including places like the Antarctic, Africa and Asia. Dr Mark is an actual medical doctor and she advises NASA about the health of astronauts. In 2018 they are sending a husband and wife team to Mars and it will take 501 days to get there – although they won’t be landing on Mars. By 2030 there will be a colony on Mars. Dr Mark said that we could live on Mars and it could be possible. When Dr Mark was growing up she wanted to be two things – an astronaut and an actual doctor. Dr Mark is very talented and has written a book called Stellar Medicine. An interesting fact was that the food which the astronauts take up is dried/powdered and water is a problem. The astronauts practice in a big tank of water as it simulates no gravity which is a big help. Dr Mark was extremely nice and let us ask lots of questions. We all got her autograph and she mentioned that she may come and visit Nettlesworth Primary the next time she is in the Country.
Class 4 – Junior Neighbourhood Watch Scheme
Class 4 have taken part in a fun, interactive scheme over the past 10 weeks which allowed them to learn a lot more about the people around in the community who work to help them. The programme culminated in them visiting the Durham Police Dog Support unit where they learnt more about the work of the police dog teams and how dogs are trained to do the tasks they do
