We have a new piece of sculpture to add to our school field. Ritchie Barnes who has provided several fantastic wooden, carved figures for us has excelled himself with his latest piece – a large totem pole carved from a tree trunk felled in the school grounds.
The pole tells the story of a hunter who was befriended by a bear whom he lived with for so many years that he became a half man/ half bear creature. The bear taught him to hunt so well that killer whales and mighty eagles feared him. However when he tried to return to his tribe the people also feared him because he had become half human.
The children love the legend and think the pole is amazing – thank you Ritchie.
