Blue Abyss Descriptive 10th June 2022
Welcome back to Summer 2!
Welcome back everyone! We are all very excited to be back at school and are keen to begin our new Cornerstones topic of, “Blue Abyss.” We dove straight into our new topic by having a visit from Paul Cookson, a poet and musician, who helped us write a poem about a sea creature that lives in the Midnight Zone!
We’re all looking forward to diving further into our topic. Grab your wetsuits everyone!
Grab your wetsuit. We’re going deep into an underwater world of incredible coral and mysterious sea creatures. Head to your local aquarium and learn about life in the ocean. Can you pick a favourite fish, plant or animal? What do real divers get up to below the surface? Create a fishy story about exploring an amazing underwater world. Time to go a little deeper into our seas. Make a model deep sea submarine that can withstand great pressure and travel to the deepest, darkest places on Earth. Make sure you test it first. What are those bright lights in the distance? It’s a group of bioluminescent sea creatures. Look closely and create a colourful, 3-D art exhibition when you rise to the surface. Flippers on? Snorkel ready? Let’s head into the Blue Abyss.
Star Readers
Class 4 have loved the launch of their new reading space, Starbooks, this half term and have each began to fill up their own Starbooks loyalty cards! Every time a child reads at home with a parent or guardian they receive a star sticker – only 8 stickers to go until their card is full! (A full card means a dip in the prize box!)
Well done to Dylan, Lucie, George, Jacob, Connie, Lily, Ava, Linzi and Sophia for their excellent reading at home!
Remember, keep reading at home everyone!

Now, in 2022, we were able to compare this commemorative coin with the coins we received from Mrs Lee and held it as a reminder to treasure our Platinum Jubilee coins.
Thank you Emilia for bringing in your family’s piece of British history and well done for speaking about it so clearly in assembly!

The children loved hearing about Mrs Johnson’s past teachers, how subjects and classrooms have changed in the school and how they even had our same Team Colours in 1951 – Mrs Johnson was in Blue Team!
