Autumn Term 2
I hope that you have all had a wonderful, relaxing half term and are ready for the next 7 weeks. During the Autumn 2nd half term in Class 5, we are looking forward to learning about our next topic – Hola Mexico.
Welcome to Mexico! The children will explore this unique country, from its towering temples and stunning geography to its pulsing rhythms and fun-packed festivals.
Tummy rumbling? The children will concoct a traditional fruit cocktail, or a delicious Mexican Meal. What’s on your shopping list? Go steady with the spices!
We will also discover the mysterious world of the ancient Maya civilisation, make their chocolate, learn their poetry, play their ball game and follow all their curious rituals.
Feel like celebrating? The children will design a Mexican skull, grab a drum, join a tribe and make some noise! Have we got what it takes to be a chief? Let’s find out…
As well as our topic, the children will develop their Invasion Games in PE, as well as enhancing our Literacy and Numeracy skills. Our children are excited to continue their preparations for the upcoming SATs, extra-curricular clubs are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. All children in Class 5 are encouraged to participate in the SAT Clubs.
Homework will be issued weekly. Spellings will be issued on Wednesday and returned ready for a test on Mondays. Either Literacy, Numeracy or Science will be issued on Mondays, to be returned on Fridays. To continue all our hard work to develop our Remote Learning, we are encouraging our children to access their homework via DB Primary and upload their homework onto the MY WORK section by the Friday deadline – paper copies will still be distributed if necessary. We are trying to encourage our children to read daily, asking parents / carers to give a brief comment in their reading diary. Please ensure that your child returns their reading book to school daily.
Class 5 will have PE on Monday and Tuesdays this half term. Please ensure your child has their PE kits in school on Monday morning and leave it in school for the whole week. We will send PE kits home on Fridays.
Please feel free to contact me with any queries; I genuinely believe that a happy child is the result of outstanding home / school links.
Mr. Graham

Welcome to Class 5 our new Year 5 and 6s.
I hope that you have all had a wonderful, relaxing summer holiday and are ready for the year ahead; welcome to Class 5 – Year 5 and 6.
In Class 5, we are looking forward to learning about our new topic – Fallen Fields…
The Sun sets on the battlefields of France and solitary bugle sounds the Last Post.
Known as ‘the war to end all wars’ the First World War was a conflict that had a devastating effect on millions of people across the world.
What started this global tragedy? What was life like for families on the home front as they waited for news of loved ones who were ‘missing in action’? How did the soldiers endure the terrible conditions in the trenches? How was a fragile peace finally achieved?
We will always remember the fallen.
As well as our topic, the children will develop their gymnastics in PE, as well as enhancing our Literacy and Numeracy skills. Our Year 6 children are excited to start their preparations for the upcoming SATs, and an extra-curricular club has been organised to start on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; all children in Class 5 will be encouraged to join in the fun on these After-School Clubs.

Please ensure that your child returns their reading book to school daily.

We are delighted to be enhancing our Forest School again this year – our sessions will be on Wednesdays and will start next week – 13.9.23.
